0.25x to 4x Speed Adjustment, Slow Motion, and Audio Options

Online Video Speed Changer

The video speed changer lets you adjust playback speed to create slow-motion or fast-playback effects. Choose from speeds ranging from 0.25x to 4x, or use the slider to set a custom speed in 0.05x increments. After adjusting the speed, you can check the estimated output duration and choose how to process the audio. It is useful for studying courses, editing videos, creating tutorials, and reviewing screen recordings.

What Video Speeds Are Supported?

Common speed presets include 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, and 4x. You can also use the slider to set a custom speed anywhere from 0.25x to 4x. Speeds below 1x slow down playback, while speeds above 1x make the video play faster.

What Happens to the Audio When Video Speed Changes?

The tool provides three audio processing modes to suit different needs:

  • Sync Speed: Adjusts the audio speed along with the video using the FFmpeg atempo filter, then re-encodes the audio as AAC at 128 kbps.
  • Keep Original Audio: Copies the original audio stream directly without changing its playback speed. Since the video duration changes, the timing of the audio may no longer match the visuals.
  • Mute: Removes the audio track from the output video and keeps only the speed-adjusted visuals.

Does Synchronized Speed Adjustment Change the Audio Pitch?

Sync Speed uses FFmpeg's atempo filter to adjust audio playback speed and generally aims to preserve the original pitch while changing the playback pace. At extreme speeds, the actual listening experience may still be affected by the audio content and processing algorithm. If you want to retain the original audio data, choose Keep Original Audio.

Can I Preview the Video at the Adjusted Speed?

Yes. After selecting a speed, the preview player immediately applies the corresponding playback rate without waiting for the video to be re-encoded. You can watch and listen to the result before deciding whether to generate the speed-adjusted file.

How Is the Estimated Output Duration Calculated?

The tool calculates the estimated output duration in real time based on the original video length and the selected playback speed. The calculation is: Original video duration divided by playback speed. For example, a 10-minute video at 2x speed has an estimated output duration of about 5 minutes; at 0.5x speed, it is about 20 minutes. The actual result may differ slightly due to video stream timestamps and encoding.

Will Speeding Up a Video Make the File Smaller?

Faster playback shortens the video, which may reduce the output file size. Slow motion extends the duration and may increase the file size. However, the final size also depends on the video content, encoding settings, and audio processing mode, so file size is not guaranteed to change in direct proportion to playback speed.

Which Video Formats Are Supported?

The tool reads input files through a local video processing module in your browser. Actual format support depends on FFmpeg's decoding capabilities. Common formats such as MP4, WebM, MOV, and MKV can be processed depending on their codecs. Output is always saved as MP4, with H.264 video encoding for compatibility with common devices and media players.

Are Videos Uploaded to a Server?

No. Video speed adjustment takes place locally in your browser. Files are read and re-encoded through the local video processing module, so no server upload is required. Keep the page open during processing. Longer or higher-resolution videos may use considerable CPU and memory resources.

What Are Common Uses for Video Speed Adjustment?

  • Course Learning: Speed up recorded lessons to reduce study and review time.
  • Slow-Motion Videos: Reduce playback speed to examine movements and visual details.
  • Tutorial Creation: Speed up screen recordings to shorten demonstrations of repetitive steps.
  • Short Video Editing: Adjust clip pacing to create fast-playback or slow-motion effects.
  • Video Sharing: Adjust playback duration to suit your content, then export the result as an MP4 file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I start processing after selecting 1x?

1x is the original playback speed and does not change the video speed. The tool therefore indicates that no processing is needed and disables the Start button.

Can I use both 0.25x and 4x speeds?

Yes. The tool supports speeds from 0.25x to 4x and splits the audio processing filter parameters according to the selected speed.

Why does video processing take a long time?

Changing video speed requires re-encoding the visuals. Processing time depends on video resolution, duration, encoding complexity, and device performance. Longer or higher-resolution videos generally take more time.

What is the difference between Keep Original Audio and Sync Speed?

Sync Speed changes audio playback speed to follow the video's new duration. Keep Original Audio copies the audio stream directly without changing its speed. If you want the audio and visuals to remain synchronized, Sync Speed is recommended.

How Do You Change Video Playback Speed Online?

Select a video file, then adjust its speed using presets from 0.25x to 4x or the custom slider. The tool supports real-time preview, estimated output duration, and three audio modes: synchronized speed adjustment, keeping the original audio, and mute.

  • Adjust video playback speed from 0.25x to 4x
  • Provides slow-motion, normal-speed, and fast-playback presets
  • Custom speed slider with 0.05x increments
  • Preview the playback effect immediately after changing the speed
  • Calculate the estimated output duration in real time
  • Supports synchronized audio speed adjustment, original audio preservation, and mute
  • Re-encodes video using H.264 and exports an MP4 file
  • Processes videos locally in the browser without uploading them to a server
  • Displays processing progress and estimated remaining time
The video speed changer is useful for creating slow motion, speeding up course videos, and adjusting screen recording duration. The output video is re-encoded. Choose synchronized audio speed adjustment, original audio preservation, or mute according to your needs.
