Word to TXT Converter Online: Extract DOCX Text with Batch Conversion and ZIP Download

Online Word to TXT Converter

This Word to TXT converter extracts readable text from DOCX documents into plain text, making it easier to copy, edit, search, and archive document content. It supports single-file extraction and batch processing of multiple DOCX files, with successfully extracted text files packaged into a ZIP archive for download.

Supported File Format

The tool accepts Word documents in DOCX format. Legacy DOC files are not supported. During conversion, the tool reads the document and extracts its text. Encrypted, corrupted, structurally unusual, or oversized files may fail to convert.

Extractable Text Content

The tool can extract body paragraphs, headings, list text, table cell text, and hyperlink text. The output is plain text and does not preserve the original Word fonts, colors, page layout, or other formatting. Images are not automatically processed with OCR, so text contained in images is not extracted through automatic text recognition.

Heading Level Markers

You can enable or disable heading level markers. When enabled, the tool adds markers based on the heading structure it identifies, helping you recognize the document outline. When disabled, the extracted text is provided without these markers. The results depend on the original document's heading structure and the parser's output.

Converting Lists and Tables

Text from ordered lists, unordered lists, and tables is converted into readable plain text. Complex multilevel numbering, indentation, merged cells, and nested structures may not retain their original layout. If you need precise row and column structures or page formatting, keep the original DOCX file and review the extracted content before using it.

Extracting a Single File

  1. Select or drag and drop a DOCX file.
  2. Enable or disable heading level markers as needed.
  3. Click the extraction button to view the plain text and character count.
  4. Copy the result or download it as a TXT file.

Batch Conversion and ZIP Download

Switch to the batch conversion tab to select multiple DOCX files at once. The tool processes the files and displays progress and the success or failure status of each file. Batch processing accepts up to 50 files with a combined size limit of 100 MB. If either limit is exceeded, reduce the number of files or their total size. Successfully extracted text files can be packaged into a ZIP archive for download. A failed file is not treated as a successful output.

Use Cases

  • Extract text from research papers, reports, contracts, and meeting notes.
  • Organize multiple Word documents into searchable and archivable TXT files.
  • Extract headings and body text for notes, knowledge bases, or content management systems.
  • Prepare DOCX content for subsequent text analysis and processing workflows.

Privacy and Limitations

Document conversion takes place locally in your browser, without uploading document contents to the application server. Processing capabilities depend on file size, browser resources, and document structure. Image text is not automatically recognized through OCR, and complex lists and tables may be formatted differently. Verify important content against the original document and keep a backup of the source file.
